California Legislature Approves Plan to Raise Gas Taxes

The California State Legislature approved a plan to raise gas taxes and vehicle fees by $5.2 billion a year to pay for the repair of California’s roads, highways and bridges. The Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1) will raise the money to pay for the plan over 10 years.  It raises the base gasoline excise tax by 12 cents, creates a transportation improvement fee based on the value of a vehicle and raises diesel excise and sales taxes.  Read articles in the Sacramento Bee and Los Angeles Times.
