Judy Janes is the Director of the Mabie Law Library and teaches Advanced Legal Research. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, and J.D. from Pacific McGeorge School of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of California.
She speaks at national, regional, and local law library conferences on issues of interest to law librarians, writes articles on legal research topics, serves on and has chaired national committees of the American Association of LawLibraries, and provides research assistance to many law school faculty, students and members of the local bar. She has served the campus community on various committees, including personnel, transportation, Librarians Association of the University of California, Davis, Academic Federation, athletics, etc. throughout her career. She worked on the passage of the California Public Records Act, testifying at hearings, and was a member of the core group working with Diane Boyer-Vine on the passage of UELMA, the Uniform Electronic Legal Materials Act. Janes is the administrator of a worldwide listserv, law-lib, which has a membership of over 3,400 law librarians.
