Mexican American Bar Association Federal Judicial Externship Program

Deadline: January 6, 2017 [2018 information not currently available]

Eligibility:

In 2013, the Mexican American Bar Association ("MABA") launched the Federal Judicial Externship Program ("Program") for law students from Los Angeles County and the greater Los Angeles area.  The Program’s mission is to increase access to prestigious and highly coveted externship positions in federal district and appellate courts, for Latino/a students in Los Angeles.  Selected students will be placed in the chambers of the judges listed below.

Participating Judges:

Honorable Harry Pregerson, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Honorable Dean D. Pregerson, United States District Court for the Central District of California
Honorable S. James Otero, United States District Court for the Central District of California
Honorable Philip S. Gutierrez, United States District Court for the Central District of California
Honorable Jesus G. Bernal, United States District Court for the Central District of California
Honorable Fernando M. Olguin, United States District Court for the Central District of California
Honorable Rozella A. Oliver, United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California

MABA will select eight (8) students to be placed as judicial externs. Recognizing that Latino/a students are often unable to pursue federal externships because they are unpaid, the Program will additionally provide $1500 stipends to each of the students selected.

Term: Ten (10) week Summer Term; Full-Time (minimum of 40 hours/week). Daily work schedules to be coordinated with Chambers.

Award: Judicial externship and a $1000 stipend to each of the students selected.
