Volunteering at The Pantry

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Sep 29, 2017

This week the UC Davis School of Law participated in adopt-a-week at the UC Davis Pantry. The Pantry is a student run organization that provides three meals or personal items a day for UC Davis students. It relies on donations from the community to be sustainable. And, that includes help from volunteers.

I volunteered at The Pantry on Thursday and the law school's Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Karen Charney, joined me. After returning from my shift I was struck by how many students were in line for food when we opened. There evidently are many UC Davis students who need our assistance. Besides providing food and toiletries, The Pantry provides information about applying for Cal Fresh (Food Stamps) and other assistance programs. I felt heartened that our King Hall community was helping students in need.

Please stay tuned for an update next week recapping our volunteer time and donations to help support the Pantry.
