Talking Diversity at Downey Brand

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Jul 14, 2017

On Thursday night, I attended an event put on by the California Bar Foundation called “Sacramento Diversity & Drinks,” a casual reception that brought together members of the local legal community to talk about ways to change, diversify, and improve the law.  It was a pleasure to spend the balmy summer evening with law students, attorneys, alums, and bar leaders at the Downey Brand law firm's beautiful Capitol Mall offices.  I enjoyed seeing alums like Lance Martin ’13, Dan Torres ’02, and many others.  (Below is a shot of me with King Hall student Gymmel Carmona ’19, King Hall’s Associate Director for Public Interest & Government Sofia Parino, and local attorney George Acero, who is President of the Cruz Reynoso Bar Association.) It was inspiring to meet with so many lawyers, students, and community leaders to discuss ways to diversify the legal profession.  With our “majority-minority” faculty and student body, UC Davis School of Law is doing its part!
