It's a busy Friday! I am taking part in several events today.
Fenwick and West Symposium: I stopped by this exciting conference in King Hall's Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom. Sponsored by leading law firm Fenwick & West,
"On the Frontier of the Future: Innovation and the Evolution of Patentable Subject Matter" brings together practitioners, academics, and students in law, management, bioscience, high technology, and other related fields to discuss the expansion of the definition of patentable subject. The lunchtime keynote speaker was Hon. Randall Rader of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Many thanks to Fenwick & West for its partnership!
SCBA Luncheon Speaker Series: Today the Civil Litigation Section of the Sacramento County Bar Association presented a panel discussion titled, "Effective Strategies for Resolving Complicated Cases Through Negotiation." I was the moderator. Our own negotiations expert Professor Donna Shestowsky was among the speakers. Our alum Steve Boutin '72 recently helped to found the Civil Litigation Section and introduced me. Alum Daniel Stouder '03 was among the organizers of the event.
Festschrift for Professor Angela Harris: King Hall Professor Angela Harris is being honored by her former colleagues at Berkeley Law with a symposium on her work. The Festschrift Symposium in Honor of Angela Harris is a daylong conference with legal scholars from around the country, including our Professor Madhavi Sunder. I'm attending the dinner portion of the event, and I look forward to making remarks to recognize Professor Harris's incredible work!
