Spring 2013 Welcome Message
Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Jan 9, 2013
To the King Hall Community:
Happy New Year! Welcome back to King Hall. All of us in the deans’ office hope that you had a peaceful and relaxing holiday season with family and friends.
We look forward to a wonderful spring. The renovation of the “old” building, including the library, is scheduled for completion in the next month or two. Thanks to the entire King Hall community for being patient throughout the lengthy construction project. We will let you know as soon as the new facilities are open for use.
We are pleased to have a distinguished visiting professor this spring. Former President of the Association of American Law Schools, Professor Emma Coleman Jordan of the Georgetown University Law Center faculty, among many other career achievements, in 1991 served as counsel for Professor Anita Hill during the confirmation hearings of Justice Clarence Thomas. She will teach classes on the “Financial Crisis: Law & Policy & Inequality” and Economic Justice.
On a fund-raising note, the School of Law recently received a gift of $100,000 from the Estate of Joseph Melchione ‘74 and a commitment of $175,000 from the Mabie Family Foundation. Both will support the King Hall building project.
As always, students and faculty have organized a full array of great symposia, lectures, speakers, and events for the spring. Among other events, the deans look forward to holding regular coffees with students and a plan from the Law Student Association to ensure a regularized process for students to provide advice on law school budgetary matters.
Again, welcome back!
