Latino Leader Roundtable Discussion on Arizona Immigration Law SB 1070
Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, May 21, 2010
I took part in an important roundtable discussion yesterday in Sacramento. Mayor Kevin Johnson invited local Latino leaders to El Novillero Restaurant (a Sacramento institution!) to take part in a discussion about Arizona's new immigration law, SB 1070.
Amador Bustos of Bustos Media welcomed the 50 or so community members in attendance, including myself and Professor Amagda Pérez. Mayor Johnson then proceeded to solicit input about whether Sacramento should follow Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angles in boycotting the State of Arizona. It was a pretty free-ranging discussion, and the mayor was open, receptive, and extremely supportive and thoughtful.
Amagda and I were pleased to be included. I am happy to provide feedback to Mayor Johnson anytime.
