King Hall Places 23rd in U.S. News Rankings

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Mar 15, 2011

Excellent news: UC Davis School of Law is ranked 23 in the latest U.S. News & World Report rating of ABA-approved law schools.  The ranking, published today, marks a significant improvement over last year's placement at 28, and a welcome move to the top 25 for our law school.

While we should not place undue emphasis on any particular rating, I believe that our rising standing in the U.S. News survey does reflect a trend of both actual improvement and ever-greater recognition from the rest of the world about the strengths of our school.  Taken together with University of Chicago law professor Brian Leiter's 2010 assessment of law faculty scholarly influence, which also placed King Hall at 23rd, the U.S. News rating makes it clear that the excellence achieved at King Hall is being noticed around the country.  Given that we are the youngest law school in the U.S. News top 25, with one of the youngest faculty of any top-echelon law school, I expect our status will only continue to rise in coming years.

Please accept my thanks and congratulations to all who helped to make this happen!  I'm very proud of what we achieved, and look forward to even greater things in the years ahead.
