Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Nov 3, 2011

This evening, the La Raza Law Students Association (LRLSA) welcomes UC Davis faculty member and poet Francisco X. Alarcón as a special guest at its Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration in the student lounge (trailer) at five o’clock.

Professor Alarcón is the creator of “Poets Responding to SB 1070,” a Facebook page to which hundreds of poets have contributed works in response to the Arizona immigration law.

The invitation text: “We will have Professor and Poet Francisco X. Alarcón explain the meaning and symbolisms of the day as celebrated in many Latin American Countries.  He will also read a few selected poems and have a brief question and answer session.  We may also have a speaker to discuss the passage of the California Dream Act and what that means for immigrant communities who may finally have access to higher education in California.  Alternatively, we will have a sugar-skull decorating session.  Spouses, Partners, Families and children are welcome.”
