CRLA Foundation and Community Partnership

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Sep 27, 2010

California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. held its Community Partnership Event (Luchando por Justicia: Striving for Justice for California's Rural Poor) on Friday evening in Sacramento.  I came back early from the State Bar Convention in Monterey so that I could attend.

Executive Director of CRLAF, Amagda Perez, who also heads our Immigration Law Clinic, was the Master of Ceremonies and did a masterful job with grace and inspiration.  Among those in attendance were the Mexican Consul General in Sacramento (Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez), Professor Miguel Mendez, Professor Cappy White, Career Services Interim Director Kirsten Hill, Miguel Martin (an esteemed alum), and a number of law students.  (The Dean's office was pleased to sponsor tickets for students to attend.)   Grisel Ruiz, a fellow who has been based in the Immigration Clinic the past year, Esmeralda Soria (who is currently away on a White House internship), and Aidin Castillo were all honored and gave remarks.  It was a wonderful event!  For many years, CRLAF has had a close relationship with the UC Davis School of Law and the Immigration Law Clinic specifically.  Many of our alums have gone on to work there (including Kirsten Hill) and many students work at CRLAF.
