Chancellor Katehi Highlights King Hall’s Rise in Rankings

King Hall’s rise in the U.S. News & World Report rankings has drawn a lot of attention, from articles in the Sacramento Bee and Davis Enterprise to mentions in the Wall Street Journal Law Blog and other online media. In addition, I was especially proud to hear UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi mention the Law School’s upward trajectory in her March 17 address to the UC Regents.
As part of her speech, Chancellor Katehi highlighted some recent milestone achievements at UC Davis, including the dedication of the expansion of our Martin Luther King, Jr. Hall. She also noted that UC Davis School of Law is “considered to be one of the fastest up-and-coming law schools in the country—which in just four years has moved from 44th to 23rd in U.S. rankings.”
While it’s important not to place undue emphasis on any given year’s rankings, it is my belief that our rising status in the U.S. News survey is a reflection of both actual improvement and increasing recognition of the strengths of our Law School. I’m very proud that Chancellor Katehi chose to bring our upward trajectory to the attention of the Regents, and look forward to working with her to achieve even greater things in the future.
