Back from ASU

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Oct 22, 2010

I had a wonderful trip to Arizona State University to deliver a keynote lecture in a symposium organized by the ASU Law School Journal of Social Justice. The students organized a wonderful event, with an incredible set of questions directed at me after my lecture. The lecture will be published in the inaugural issue of the Journal and is entitled "A Case Study of Color-Blindness: The Racially Disparate Impacts of Arizona’s SB 1070 and the Failure of Comprehensive Immigration Reform." You can view the SSRN abstract here.

I was able to visit with old friends, including Professors Mary Romero and Evelyn Cruz, as well as esteemed King Hall alums including Professor Charles Calleros '78, who was very interested in the grand new wing of King Hall. I met with ASU law dean Paul Berman during my visit. The day was capped off with a wonderful tour of the Arizona Supreme Court by my law school classmate and fellow Harvard Law Review editor Justice Scott Bales. Justice Bales has agreed to deliver the 2011 Barrett Lecture on Constitutional Law at King Hall. Stay tuned for more details!

By the way, during the trip, I learned something fun about our alum, Professor Charles Calleros. It seems he's the founder and drummer for an R&B band called "The Repeat Offenders." Check out their MySpace page and YouTube site!
