AALS 2012 Workshop for New Law Teachers
Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Jun 22, 2012
I spent yesterday and today in Washington DC, where I delivered the opening keynote at the AALS New Law Teachers Workshop.
It was a whirlwind trip – I was only in DC for about 24 hours! I arrived yesterday afternoon and quickly headed to the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, where the conference was taking place. I welcomed the new law teachers to the profession and offered my “Dean's perspective” on law teaching. Today, our new faculty member Rose Villazor was on a panel on the tips and tricks of scholarship. Also today, I met with King Hall alum Gary Solis ’71 (who has extensive law professor experience at Georgetown, GW, and the U.S. Military Academy) in the morning before heading to the DC office of law firm Sidley Austin to meet with alum Jeff Green ’88 (who supervises a U.S. Supreme Court clinic at Northwestern and will be meeting with visitors from King Hall's exchange partner China University of Political Science and Law and taking them to the Court next week). I had a great visit with Jeff over lunch. Then it was right back to Dulles airport.
Washington was HOT! It was 98 degrees plus that notorious DC humidity. Still, it was a great trip, and I enjoyed seeing everyone.
