A Silicon Valley Sanctuary Jurisdiction Symposium
Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Apr 21, 2017
Today I had the pleasure in participating in the 2017 Sanctuary Jurisdiction Symposium held in the heart of Silicon Valley at Santa Clara University and sponsored by the Santa Clara Law Review. Besides immigration and constitutional law professors, the participants included U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, California Assemblymember Ash Kalra, and James Brosnahan, a legendary lawyer who defended a group of religious leaders who were charged criminally for providing sanctuary to refugees fleeing civil war in Central America during the 1980s.
The symposium attracted a full house. Many, no doubt, were interested in the subject of the symposium because of the Trump administration's threats to strip "sanctuary cities" of federal funding. It seems that today there is an incredible amount of interest in immigration and the laws that regulate it. We are lucky indeed to have amazing depth and strength immigration law at King Hall.
