2017 Welcome BBQ

Posted By Kevin R. Johnson, Aug 14, 2017

On a glorious and cool August evening at the Buehler Alumni Center, UC David School of Law greeted the incoming Class of 2020 at the annual "Welcome BBQ" held for new students just prior to their first week of classes.  Law faculty, staff, students, members of the Alumni Board, and the new class came together as the students got set to begin their legal education.

The Class of 2020 is a wonderful and incredibly talented group.  With 151 students from schools across the country, from Harvard to UC Merced, from UC Berkeley to Johns Hopkins, the entering class is an amazingly diverse group.  The class includes eight veterans of the U.S. armed services, 58 percent women, 54 percent students of color, and about 21 percent first generation students

It was great talking with the new King Hallers, introducing them to their new community, and hearing inspiring words from Alumni Board President Kim Lucia '09 (pictured below), Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid Kristen Mercado, and Law Students Association President Kim Waldon '18.  I have been attending these BBQs for many years and always enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of our entering students.

Onward and upward, Class of 2020!
