Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access
The Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access was established at UC Davis School of Law to help students with financial needs attend the Law School. The scholarship was created to honor Justice Reynoso and his late wife Jeannene. It sends a strong message to prospective students that, if they are admitted, UC Davis School of Law will help them with their desire to enter the legal profession.
Cruz Reynoso understands the need for access scholarships. He grew up in a family of 11 children in Orange County. As the son of farm workers, he picked fruit and dreamed of attending college. His dream came true when he started at Fullerton College, and then received a scholarship to finish his undergraduate degree at Pomona College. He and Jeannene met in Washington, D.C., where they both worked. They married while he was a law student at the University of California, Berkeley, and Jeannene worked to support them.
UC Davis School of Law is proud to raise funds for the Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship, helping to ensure that it remains a truly public law school.
We welcome all who wish to support the Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access. For more information, please visit the online giving page or contact Karen Charney, Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, UC Davis School of Law, at email@example.com or 530.752.6209.
A Letter from the Inaugural Recipient of the Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access
Dear Professor Reynoso,
I feel honored to have received a scholarship that is created in your name. Knowing that you stand for values in which I believe truly makes the scholarship an honor. When I told my parents about the scholarship, they understood the honor I describe, and they are proud of me. I hope the scholarship continues for other students with need in years to come.
Although I consider myself a qualified person, I nonetheless find myself wondering if I'll be successful in law school, or if I really belong. Receiving this scholarship helps me to believe that I belong here.
With sincere thanks,
J.D. Candidate, 2012
