King Hall Negotiations Team (KHNT)
The King Hall Negotiations Team (KHNT) consists of students interested in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and client counseling. Through participating in interschool competitions and sparring with fellow teammates, KHNT members hone skills that are critical for successful lawyering. Each year, students are chosen from the team to compete in ABA-sponsored competitions in Negotiations and Client Counseling, where UC Davis teams routinely advance to the Regional Finals and to subsequent National Competitions.
Students involved in KHNT also participate in a number of more specialized competitions that focus on particular areas of law, such as environmental law, entertainment law, bankruptcy, and sports law. First-year law students are encouraged to compete in the Annual 1L Negotiation Competition held every Fall at UC Davis School of Law. The 1L Negotiation Competition provides first-year law students the opportunity to explore and develop their negotiation skills outside the classroom. The competition is designed to tests students’ ability to negotiate for the best deal for their client while also being flexible in the natural give-and-take of negotiation. In the Spring semester, KHNT hosts the Annual Intraschool Negotiation Competition in which all JD and LLM students are eligible to compete. Participation in the Intraschool Competition is required for all students who want to join KHNT.
The Intraschool Competition doubles as an excellent educational experience in that students are evaluated, and receive detailed feedback from, legal practitioners and current KHNT members.
