Professor Imwinkelried Speaks on Statistical Evidence at John Marshall School of Law

On March 4, Professor Edward Imwinkelried was the first speaker at a seminar at the Georgia State Bar Building in Atlanta.  The seminar was co-sponsored by the John Marshall School of Law.  The topic of the seminar was preventing and remedying miscarriages of justice.  Professor Imwinkelried discussed the risk that the misuse of statistical evidence will cause a miscarriage.  In particular, he addressed the question of whether the proponent of testimony about a scientific measurement should be required to present not only a point estimate of the measurement but also an arithmetic measure of the uncertainty of the measurement such as a confidence interval for the estimate.

Professor Imwinkelried is a world-renowned evidence expert and has published extensively in the field.
